EXTERIOR EVALUATION AND UDDER DEFICIENCIES OF DOMESTIC AYRSHIRE COWS OF VARIOUS GENOTYPES
Abstract and keywords
Abstract:
The objective of the study is to conduct a comparative analysis of udder conformation scores in genotyped Ayrshire dairy cows of different origins based on EBV assessments using the BLUP AM method. Objectives: to study the variability of the main linear traits used to assess cow body type, as well as their conformation deficiencies based on the breeding value of the genetic assessment depending on the origin of the fathers, and to analyze the population's genetic structure to identify clustering of daughters of foreign and domestic bulls. The object of the study was individual conformation score data and the genotypes of 669 first-calf heifers based on the results of genome-wide studies based on single-nucleotide polymorphisms in the Ayrshire cattle population with 29,883 SNPs. Among imported animals, animals from Finnish semen took the leading position according to assessments, with EBV for UD values of +0.57 ± 0.07, RUH of +0.32 ± 0.07, FUA of +0.31 ± 0.07, and RUW of +0.23 ± 0.12, which significantly exceeded or was at the same level as their peers. The offspring of North American bulls belonging to a Russian breeding enterprise (BE) had better EBV values for udder conformation, and the infusion of North American Ayrshire blood into Finnish bulls belonging to the BE RF had an improving effect on FUA, RUH, and UD. Analysis of individual bulls showed that the individual characteristics of selected sires, regardless of their origin, are more important for selection for improved udder quality. And the identified defects in the udder exterior are not closely related to EBV assessments for udder quality traits.
