The objective of the study is to develop a methodological framework for state regulation of the efficiency of land use in the agro-industrial complex. The study was conducted based on statistical indicators available in the public domain in national and international specialized industry databases. The study established a trend of growth in the area of agricultural land in the world by 8.0 % over the period 1961-2022. In the Russian Federation, the opposite trend was revealed, which indicates a decrease in the area of agricultural land in the country by 2.8 %. An analysis of approaches to understanding the efficiency of land use and indicators that allow assessing the level of efficiency was carried out. It was found that the concept of "land resources" is characterized by a significant variety of approaches to interpretation. Based on the review, the author's system of indicators for assessing the efficiency of land use in the agro-industrial complex is proposed, including three groups of indicators: primary, indirect and auxiliary. The key principles and functions of state regulation of the efficiency of land use in the agro-industrial complex are also formulated. The conducted research allows us to form a unified approach to understanding the essence of land resources in the agro-industrial complex and a comprehensive mechanism for its regulation.
