The article examines the theoretical and methodological foundations of strategic management of industrial innovation potential based on the taxonomic analysis and life cycle of unique technological competencies (UTCs). The purpose of the study is to develop a methodological framework that ensures the transition from managing individual innovation projects to managing a portfolio of UTCs as a key element of a company’s technological development. The object of the research is industrial enterprises operating in high-technology sectors, and the subject is the set of technological competencies determining their competitiveness and sustainability of innovation activity. The methodological basis includes systems and structural-functional approaches, as well as methods of taxonomic analysis, comparison, and modeling. The study proposes a three-level taxonomy of UTCs encompassing their classification by strategic class, field of application, and type of knowledge, along with a five-phase life cycle model (formation, development, maturity, saturation, transformation). An integrated matrix “Taxonomy × Life Cycle” has been constructed to enable the diagnosis of structural imbalances in the UTC portfolio and to support the development of managerial decisions for each stage of competence evolution. The practical significance of the study lies in the creation of a diagnostic and forecasting toolkit for industrial structures. The proposed model provides a rational allocation of resources between R&D, development, and divestment of competencies, contributes to the formation of a balanced technological portfolio, and enhances the strategic flexibility of enterprises under global technological challenges. The results can be applied in the practice of strategic and innovation management, in the design of corporate programs for technological development, and in shaping human resource policies within high-technology companies.
