The article provides a comprehensive analysis of the current state and prospects for the development of small and medium-sized businesses in the trade sector of the Republic of Tatarstan. Special attention is paid to the role of SMEs in shaping sustainable economic growth and social stability in the region. The key issues hindering the effective operation of business structures are considered, including administrative barriers, financial constraints, the impact of digitalization and increasing competition from large networks. The steady economic growth and social stability of the Republic of Tatarstan largely depend on the progress of small and medium-sized trading enterprises. To unlock the potential of small and medium-sized enterprises, it is important to develop a package of initiatives to reduce bureaucratic obstacles, improve financial conditions, stimulate digitalization and strengthen their market position. Only under such conditions will small enterprises be able to fully participate in the development of the local economy and significantly improve the living standards of local residents. The main areas of government support are highlighted and measures are proposed to improve the legal and financial infrastructure to stimulate the growth of SMEs. The emphasis is placed on the importance of introducing digital technologies, developing cooperation and cluster associations. Modern instruments of state policy in the field of entrepreneurship support are considered separately. The results of the study can be useful for developing practical recommendations to government authorities and the business community. Sustainable economic development is ensured through the use of advanced digital solutions, strengthening partnerships between enterprises and the effective use of government measures to support businesses. To successfully accomplish these tasks, it is necessary to ensure interaction between the public sector, commercial structures and scientific institutions, supported by the development of an appropriate legal framework. The obtained research data can assist in the formation of specific guidelines for government agencies and business circles that help strengthen the country's position in global competition and ensure stable economic growth.
